Paws of Vellore is a registered non-profit dog rescue organization headquartered in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. Founded in 2012, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned, abused, and stray dogs across the Vellore district. We believe every dog deserves a life free from suffering, and we work tirelessly to make that vision a reality through rescue operations, medical care, and community education.
The stray dog population in Vellore has grown significantly over the past decade, with thousands of dogs living on the streets without access to food, shelter, or medical care. Our rescue teams respond to emergency calls daily, rescuing injured dogs from roads, abandoned puppies from construction sites, and elderly dogs left behind by families who have relocated. Each rescue is treated with compassion and urgency.
Our organization operates with a dedicated team of veterinarians, trained dog handlers, rescue volunteers, and administrative staff. We maintain a fully-equipped medical facility at our Vellore campus where rescued dogs receive vaccinations, surgeries, sterilization procedures, and ongoing treatment. Our rehabilitation programs help dogs overcome trauma and behavioral issues before they are matched with loving families.
Since our founding, Paws of Vellore has rescued and rehomed over 5,000 dogs, sterilized more than 8,000 stray dogs through our Animal Birth Control programs, and provided free anti-rabies vaccination to thousands more. We have partnered with local schools, colleges, and community groups across Vellore to spread awareness about responsible pet ownership and compassion towards street animals.
Looking ahead, we aim to expand our rescue facility, establish a permanent adoption center in Vellore, and launch mobile veterinary clinics to reach dogs in remote areas of the district.
