Founded in 2011 in Bhosari, Pune, Wildlife Rescue Centers began as a small volunteer group responding to snake and bird distress calls along the Pavana and Mula-Mutha river corridors. Today we operate a fully equipped rescue and rehabilitation facility that handles more than 4,800 rescue incidents every year — ranging from displaced reptiles and injured raptors to large mammals trapped in urban expansion zones.
Our operations are built on a strict three-stage protocol: rapid retrieval, clinical stabilisation and structured rehabilitation. Every rescued animal that enters our Bhosari centre is examined by a qualified wildlife veterinarian, logged into our digital case registry, and assigned a recovery plan tailored to its species, age, injury severity and behavioural condition. This documentation helps us track outcomes and continuously improve survival rates.
Rehabilitation is where our work truly differentiates us. Instead of simply releasing animals once wounds heal, we run enclosure-based conditioning programmes that rebuild muscle strength, hunting or foraging instincts, and predator avoidance behaviour. Where required, we use soft-release techniques — gradual acclimatisation at the release site — to significantly increase post-release survival in the wild.

Community engagement forms the backbone of our conservation model. We conduct awareness workshops in schools and housing societies across Bhosari, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Wakad and Hinjawadi, training residents on first-response handling, safe containment and correct reporting channels. Our volunteer programme has trained over 900 citizens in humane wildlife handling and rescue ethics.
Looking ahead, we are expanding our Bhosari facility with an advanced avian care unit, a dedicated reptile quarantine block and a mobile veterinary ambulance fleet. With the support of donors, corporate CSR partners and a growing volunteer network, Wildlife Rescue Centers remains committed to one simple promise — no distressed wild animal in Pune is turned away.
