Kolhapuri Leather Wallets was born in a modest workshop on the outskirts of Kolhapur, Maharashtra — a city long celebrated for its craftsmanship, from chappals to silver jewellery. We started with three artisans, one cutting table and a stubborn belief that a wallet should be more than a fold of hide that falls apart in a year. Today, that workshop has grown into a full design and manufacturing studio serving customers across India and overseas.

Every wallet begins with the hide. We source full-grain buffalo and cowhide from trusted, vegetable-tanned tanneries in Tamil Nadu and Kanpur, selecting only the top layer of the skin where the fibres are tightest. Nothing is corrected, sanded down or masked with synthetic coatings — what you see is what the animal's skin actually looks like, and it only gets richer with time.

The craft itself is deliberately slow. Our artisans cut by hand, skive the edges thin, burnish them with beeswax until they shine, and saddle-stitch the panels using waxed polyester thread. That single-needle technique means if one stitch breaks, the rest hold firm. It is the same method used on saddles and horse tack — which is exactly why our wallets survive decades of daily pocket wear.
